I’m not normally a fan of super heroes in books, but I thought I would take a chance, since I’m a fan of Lawson’s writing - and I am so glad I did! Astrid is such a cool MC. She has had a lot of loss in her life, but she is strong. I like that the guys don’t try to over protect her and they all work together. I can’t wait to see their relationships develop. I’m so happy book two is out, and I can read it next!

First off it was hard to get into, then the actions of the “heroine” put me off, to the point that I quit reading. On her first two missions/ops/whatever she ignores orders, withholds needful info, makes horrible decisions and gets angry when she has to be saved. “I could have handled it” attitude. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. The story jumps back and forth between current events and “before”, so it didn’t flow at all. Maybe I could have overlooked one or two issues but the lame comic book type plot was too over-the-top.
I love all things superheroes and most things reverse harem (RH) so this premise was super exciting for me. I really like the idea that all of these children were part of a secret project and now they are finding each other as adults. The best superhero tropes of cool and sometimes tortuous powers, kickass costumes and flashy gadgets are all accounted for. The fact that the romance in the series will blossom into a RH is a huge plus as well. I tend to rate RH stories on a separate scale from all other books I read, and on my RH scale this one is a 3.75-4 because of just how much I like all of the above things.

As to specifics - (SLIGHTLY SPOILERY) - on the "romance" side of things, I found myself more interested in Owen and Casper than in Quinn, the hero the heroine (Astrid) actually has romantic interactions with in this book. I just wasn't feeling their connection yet. I really like that we don't know all of the members of her harem yet, and that they aren't all already gaga over her. I think the story and characters could be a little more fleshed out -as this is a series I imagine we will continue to see those things grow. Though there was a charm to the simplicity of the mystery elements, at times I thought it was a little too simple, or too easy, with the characters all of a sudden knowing things, and some things that seemed like very slight plotholes or inconsistencies to me. The book is in various POV, with some chapters/portions taking place in the past, when the heroine was a child. A majority of it is third person, present tense and there were some tense issues sometimes, as well as some words that weren't errors per se, but where I thought another word would sound/flow better. Overall, I found the story a lot of fun, similar to the CW shows I enjoy, and I look forward to the next in the series.
Astrid doesn’t remember much about her childhood. After her parents died she was sent to a group home with eleven boys and girls. The memories are of unusual behaviors and scary doctors giving her shots. She was part of Project 12. She kept mostly to herself because she was too sensitive. Astrid is an empath; with the brush of her hand, she can feel someone’s deepest, darkest secrets. As a child, it was too much. But she's no longer a child. With the help of her mentor, she has learned to harness her abilities. She's strong, she's badass. She's super. Then the past catches up and her world is shattered but she's not alone. There are others like her and they must be a team to survive. However, not all of them have the same good intentions. At least one is the enemy.

The description of this book reads, The Elite is a superhero fantasy series with a healthy dose of kick-a** action, an unstoppable heroine, a sexy reverse harem love story and gadgets and cool toys that ever superhero wishes to add to their arsenal. I honestly can't describe it any better! Astrid is fantastic; guarded yet wanting a connection. She's physically and mentally strong. Then you have the boys, Quinn is wonderful. The bond he and Astrid share is based on common experience and shared abilities but the heat they have together is pure chemistry. I love the two broken inner children leaning on each other for emotional support and the two adults desiring a true connection. Great dynamic. Owen is intriguing, still a bit of a mystery but definitely interested. I look forward to the day he trusts Astrid and Owen enough to completely open up. Then there's the voice of knowledge, Casper, friend, and advisor. The villain is perfect. That's all you get from me.

I love the RH genre and love superheroes so this is perfect for me. Adventure, romance, fun! I can't wait for more.

Angel did amazing job representing the characters. You get the see how the mc grows into her own and you to love super heroes.
Interesting premise, but the writing feels a little forced and awkward at times. Not bad overall though, may pick up the next book later on.
I enjoyed the book. This is the first RH I have read where not all the harem is introduced in the first book. Its a very good premise and story line. I am looking forward to learning all about each superhero and seeing where the author takes it from here.
